There's a moment in every small-bathroom renovation where you realize a standard 60-inch alcove shower simply isn't happening. A neo-angle unit uses a five-sided base: two edges against the walls, two short angled returns, and a flat diagonal front where the door sits. The door is usually a pivot or hinged panel, which gives a wide, easy step-in.
A round (really quarter-circle) unit curves the front face instead. The glass panels are curved and they slide — the key point being no door swing at all. The bowed front also gives back a little room, since the curve intrudes less than a diagonal cutting across.

Measure the corner before you order anything
Corner kits assume a square, plumb corner. Canadian housing stock — especially older homes and basements — frequently disagrees. Three quick checks avoid the most common corner-shower headache:
- Check square. Measure equal distances along each wall from the corner (say 36 inches each way), then measure the diagonal between the two marks — a true 90-degree corner gives about 50-7/8 inches at 36/36. A framing square held into the corner at base height works as a quick read.
- Check plumb. Run a level up each wall from floor to door-track height. Leaning walls affect the glass far more than the base — door panels have some adjustment at the wall jambs, but it's modest, and a badly out-of-plumb wall shows up as a tapered gap.
- Check level. The floor under the base needs to be flat and level. A base rocking on a humped slab will crack over time; plan on a mortar bed or levelling compound if the floor is off.
Also confirm the drain location against your framing. Corner bases typically put the drain at the centre or near the corner, and in a basement the pipe's position in the slab isn't something you relocate casually.

Do corner shower kits include the faucet and valve?

What if my corner isn't perfectly square?
A small deviation — a few millimetres over the width of the base — is normal, and the door hardware's adjustment range will absorb it. Anything worse should be corrected at the framing or shimming stage before the base goes in, because glass panels can't bend to follow a bad corner.
